Health and Well-Being

There's nothing better than having cat, trust me. Cute adorable meows, smooth and floofy fur and therapeutic purrs *-* All's good and well but they're living creatures just like us and I cannot stress enough how important it is to take care of their health since most people seem to ignore these needs.

Bringing a cat home

Before picking any cat, you always have to check for it's health. Her'es a some of the things to look out for in kittens:

1) Nose should be clean with no discharge or sneezing

2) Mouth breath should be pleasant smelling, the teeth straight and white, and the gums pink

3) Coat should be clean and shiny, with no valid itchy patches. Check for evidence of fleas

4) Body should be symmetrical and well grown. Body movements should be agile and supple

5) Ears should be clean and pink inside, free from discharge or redness and with no unpleasant odor

6) Eyes should be clear and bright, and the underlies should be a healthy pink. There shouldn't be any redness or watering

7) Anus should be free from swelling or irritation as well as clean and dry

8) Skin should be clean and free from dandruff, blemishes and sore patches

Now that you know some things to look out for, it's always wise to ask as many questions from the previous owner as possible relating to the cat's health, dislikes and likes. This makes life SO much easier for you once you bring the cat home since you will avoid getting toys that can be potentially rejected. Also make sure you have all the necessary equipment before bringing the cat home such as carrier, beds, grooming tools, toys, scratching posts, litter-box etc; this will make the cat settle in faster but of course spend according to your budget :)

Feeding

The golden rule in feeding is to feed little and often - at least 2-3 meals a day. A good diet for cats must be a balanced combination of proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins and water. Despite being carnivores, their dietary requirements are quite complex so for any new cat people out there, this is for you

1) Cows milk can upset the digestion but you can get dairy free milk if your cat loves milk

2) Canned foods are idea because they contain all the correct nutrients.

3) Dreid food are loved by all cats and less messy and they are complete foods.

4) Cats love fresh cooked meats and fish and you can offer fresh food twice weekly which is a very healthy option.

5) For some reason cats love grass and it's totally safe.

Grooming and care

Grooming a short-haired cat, you will need a comb with wide teeth and a flea comb.

For long-haired you will need the comb and flea comb, a brush with stiff bristles or pin brush, and blunt scissors to remove matting.

It's ideal to brush long-haired cats regularly, once every day or every other day to ensure silky smooth, matt-free fur, but short-haired cats don't require daily grooming but maybe they might love it so much you have to do it every day!

Trimming the claws are also an important task. Indoor and elderly cats require regular attention and animal nail clippers should be used; only a small area of the claw should be removed and it's better to ask a pro to guide you.
