Brief cat history

There are so many types of cats in this world! From long hair to short hair, curly-haired and no hair, but it all started somewhere - the domestication of wild cats.

The Cat Family as a whole includes both big cats like Lion, Leopard and Tiger and small cats, such as the Bobcat, Puma, and Wildcat. Although it may look like many other members of the cat family, the domestic cat is descended from the African Wildcat (one of the small cats) and unlike other domestic animals, such as the dog, the cat chose to become domesticated; it began to live in close proximity to human settlements as it quickly realized that they were a good source of food.

Genetically, all domestic cats are tabbies because the African Wildcat has a coat with bands of lighter and darker colors like a striped tabby, designed to provide camouflage in the wild. Therefore, although all cats still carry the tabby gene, mutated genes can mask it so that the coat appears in another pattern of color.

Now, there are various colors in cats along with a diverse range of patterns and sizes. Each color has different shades such as light or dark brown, black or silver; this just goes to show how much variety the cat species has.
